The Milecastle Inn is located in one of the most important areas along the Roman Wall. There are more sites of Roman camps in the fields around here than anywhere else on the Wall. It was here the Stanegate, the earlier Roman road, that ran from Corstopitum to Luguvallium (Corbridge to Carlisle) was closest to the construction site of the Wall.
This meant that a lot of the supplies and soldiers, to construct and garrison the Wall, stayed in temporary camps in the area before dispersing along the Wall. The soldiers were tempted to stay here for the same reason that you will visit or stay at the Milecastle Inn - refreshment and warmth!
The Milecastle Inn is open daily for meals all year round, from 12 noon to 9pm (Good Friday to end of October) and 12 noon to 3pm & 6pm to 9pm the rest of the year. We offer a wide range of bar meals that include our speciality homemade pies. And for that special occasion, why not book a table in our restaurant.
